Five Good Reasons to Support Wrestling at NBHS

.) The sport of wrestling is open to all students, regardless of size. Since wrestlers compete against each other based on weight, it is especially well suited to smaller athletes. Of the 15 weight classes in high school wrestling, 8 are for kids weighing under 150 lbs. and, unlike most high school sports, it is also open to handicapped students.

.) The sport of wrestling attracts strong, aggressive kids and provides a structured environment where these characteristics can be channeled into positive development. It is particularly beneficial to high risk kids who lack good role models at home and are looking for a place to belong. It gives many of them something to be a part of and a reason to stay in school.

.) Wrestling provides real-life experiences that builds and strengthens the following character traits: mental toughness, work ethic, competitive spirit, responsibility, determination, discipline, confidence, focus, respect, humility and self control.

.) No other high school sport is as physically challenging. The intense competitive nature of wrestling demands strength, stamina, agility, quickness, flexibility and coordination above and beyond what is required by other sports. Wrestlers will always be among the best conditioned athletes on their teams in any other sport they choose to participate in.

.) UIL high school wrestling in Texas allows everyone on the team to compete, regardless of experience and skill level. All JV team members get to wrestle at the tournaments they attend.
